The history of our property..

II wanted to tell a story about the property we bought for the farm and the project we had to get it ready to plant our peonies.

I’ll make a long story short. This property was owned by my paternal grandparents. I spent countless hours here as a little girl running around the property spending time with my grandparents. My grandpa passed away in 2001 and my grandma continued to live here with my aunt and uncle until she passed away in 2011.

After her death, the property became really run down and at some point, my aunt and uncle both moved away from the property, leaving a substantial amount of stuff behind in the shop, in the house and all over the exterior of the property. The property has been vacant for about six years. Well, vacant with the exception of random transients that would move in, stay for a while and then with a little help, moved along. Thank you, Marion County Sheriff's Office, for your help with that!

I had told my dad several times over the years I wanted to buy the property and fix it up and get it back to the way I remember it as a kid. I wanted to have my future grand children come to the property and play outside under the huge old trees and make memories there like I did as a little girl.

With my dad’s approval, I started the process to buy the property in fall of 2023. After working through some lengthy legal issues with the property, in June 2024, I was finally able to sign the paperwork to purchase the property, making it officially ours!

The property was in bad shape, it needed a new well and a new septic, the shop needed a new roof, new doors, new electrical, and many more repairs. The house was not even remotely suitable for repairs and needed demolished. It was full of junk, which needed to be emptied out. In addition, there was a large amount of junk that needed to me removed from the shop and the exterior of property. The first day we went out there, Dave thought I was nuts because of how bad it was, and all I could think about was what I know it could be and how I remembered it as a kid.

We cancelled our trip we had planned and instead spent our vacation diving head first into the cleanup. After that initial week, we spent countless hours out at the farm cleaning up the property a little each day. We had so much help from family and friends with various projects, and after a few long months, we finally felt like we were making progress. We completed the shop renovations and got the field ready for the peonies. Once the peonies were in the ground, we demolished the house and have now recently started on the green house renovations.

We are finally to the fun part, where we have a blank slate, and we can make our vision come to life. I can’t wait for our open house event later this summer/fall so everyone can come see how it turned out!

Check out our social media for before and after's. We have a couple videos that really show the progress!
