October at the farm.

October has been a month of change here at the farm!

This time of year, the peony field starts winding down for the season, and it’s time for one of the most important fall tasks: cutting back the peonies. It’s always a little bittersweet to see the lush green rows fade, but this process helps keep our plants healthy and strong for next spring.

In mid-October we spent a sunny Saturday trimming back every peony and getting the field ready for its winter rest. The “before” and “after” photos show just how much the field changes after the peonies are cutdown — it’s always amazing to see the transformation once everything is trimmed back.
